With the exhibition "Stuttgart Hatırası", the StadtPalais presents personal photographs and stories of Turkish immigrants and their families. The pictures and texts show how city and family histories are connected and document their constant change.

Hatıra means memory. In the exhibition "Stuttgart Hatırası", this refers on the one hand to the souvenir photos taken by Turkish immigrants in the second half of the 20th century at prominent locations in Stuttgart. They show young Turks and their families in front of the fountains on Schlossplatz, in front of the Berger Sprudler, on Kleiner Schlossplatz or in Bad Cannstatt Kurpark. On the other hand, "Hatıra" also stands for the many personal memories and experiences of people who have sought a future in a foreign city, in a foreign country. In this way, the beautiful and painful experiences of German-Turkish immigrants to Stuttgart become visible from a micro-perspective.

In the exhibition, visitors encounter the stories in intimate one-to-one encounters. They are told by different generations. Sometimes the grandpa or grandma themselves, who arrived here in the 1970s or 1980s, speak, sometimes the grandchildren who were born in Stuttgart. Different perspectives that make it clear that the topic still moves many German-Turkish families today. But not everything can be told. "There is also pain involved. When memories hurt, people don't like to talk about them. I think that's why many questions simply remain unanswered," believes Ahmet, whose family came to Stuttgart in the 1970s. "Stuttgart Hatırası" sheds light on the topic of the so-called guest worker generation by giving space to selected, very personal stories. Visitors have the opportunity to add their own stories. The opening will take place on October 8 at 7 pm in the StadtPalais - Museum für Stuttgart. No registration required. Admission free.
