What is public space today? Between streets and social feeds, Berlin artist Paulus Goerden explores the interface between analog urban space and the digital public sphere in Stuttgart - with poetic miniatures, performative research and an exhibition at StadtPalais.
Art in public space in the mirror of the digital public sphere
What is public space today? Streets, squares, building fences - and also: feeds, reels and stories. Digital platforms have long been part of our urban reality. New forms of perception, appropriation and publicity are emerging between analogue urban space and algorithmic visibility.
With the project "Between Street and Feed", YouTransfer e.V. invites the Berlin artist Paulus Goerden to Stuttgart, whose work makes these interfaces visible. Goerden moves through the city like an open archive: he collects urban traces, improvised signs, chance encounters - and transforms them into dense, poetic miniatures on Instagram. What is often overlooked in passing becomes an image, a question, a gesture. His contributions combine photography, text and location to create an artistic cartography of everyday life - fleeting, fragmented, politically charged.
In Stuttgart, Paulus Goerden will roam the city for several days, observing, collecting and documenting. His research is both an artistic practice and a performative examination of the city. The highlight of this approach is the opening of his exhibition at the StadtPalais - Museum für Stuttgart on October 29, 2025. The exhibition presents a media installation in the foyer of the StadtPalais and forms the framework for a public evening event with a panel discussion in which artists, curators and cultural politicians discuss the role of art in public space in the digital age.
YouTransfer e.V. understands art in public space as a dynamic process that is not limited to walls and squares, but also unfolds in digital public spaces. The invitation to Paulus Goerden follows this expanded understanding: his practice poses central questions about visibility, the public sphere and artistic intervention in the age of social media. It makes it clear that public space does not end at the curb. It continues - in the digital mirror of our cities.
"Zwischen Straße und Feed" is a project by YouTransfer e.V. in cooperation with the StadtPalais - Museum für Stuttgart, funded by the City of Stuttgart and the Wüstenrot Foundation.
