Tango Passion

Location:
Hospitalhof Stuttgart, Büchsenstraße 33, 70174 Stuttgart

“I am a tango man. But my music makes people think—those who love tango, and those who appreciate good music.” (Astor Piazzolla)

A young man leaves his homeland of Argentina and comes to Europe. Here, he wants to learn how to compose “properly.” In Paris, his teacher Nadia Boulanger can’t quite figure him out. Although he brings a whole suitcase full of compositions with him, everything seems somehow contrived. Until the student summons all his courage and one day plays one of his tangos for her on the piano. She is blown away: “This is the real Piazzolla—never abandon it.” After returning to his homeland, Astor Piazzolla founded an ensemble in 1955 that dared to create a literally new tango and brought the “Tango Nuevo” to life. Piazzolla is the first to free tango and the accordion from the seedy image of shady nightclubs and bring them into concert halls. The Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, together with Lithuanian accordion star Martynas Levickis, unleashes all the magic of tango. In this special evening, they present not only the music of the famous Argentine—who only found the courage to develop his own style in Paris—but also a tango master from France. Whether you’re a tango fan or not: this program will sweep you off your feet!
