Lecture and talk
with Stefanie Bremer and Rainer Kirchdörfer
Moderation: Susanne Kaufmann
Family businesses groan under excessive bureaucracy as well as energy and personnel costs and complain about the excessive tax burden. Not only do they pay around half of corporate taxes in Germany, they also create social security and prosperity through jobs. All of this is at risk if Germany is no longer competitive. Rainer Kirchdörfer, Chairman of the Family Business and Politics Foundation, calls for the framework conditions for family businesses to be significantly improved. Stefanie Bremer sees things differently. She herself comes from a medium-sized business family, is an heiress and is involved in "taxmenow", an initiative that calls for an end to tax privileges for the wealthy and fair taxation of large fortunes through a tax system that ensures redistribution; Bremer is particularly critical of the common narratives of the wealthy lobby. How much equal treatment is necessary for a society to hold together? What financial security do family businesses need to remain competitive?
