The Art of Laughter praises the ability to laugh, which is unique to humans. After great success on the stages of Paris, London and New York, Jos Houben is now presenting his solo program at the WILHELMA THEATER in Stuttgart for the first time.

With the wit, humor and precision of an experienced clown, Jos Houben explores the depths and depths of comedy and the paradoxical question of why we laugh in an easily understandable mixture of English, German and French: from the first steps of a toddler to the abysses of love to the hardships of a waiter or the tasting of different types of cheese - there is nothing we can't laugh about with Jos Houben!

Jos Houben has been performing, writing, teaching and directing all over the world for 30 years. He has worked with international artists at renowned theaters including Peter Brook, Ecole Jacques Lecoq, The Right Size, Georges Aperghis, Theatre de Complicite - Simon McBurney, National Theatre London, Ragdoll Ltd, Thames TV, Opera North, Centre National Des Arts Du Cirque, British Council, Opéra Comique...
He was awarded the prestigious Perrier Comedy Award (1986, Theatre de Complicite) and the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment (1999, The Right Size).
Houben's one-man show The Art of Laughter has been touring the world for years. Three years in a row, he played to sold-out audiences for a month at the Rond Point Theater on the Champs Elysees.

Jos Houben has been a regular clown teacher at the HMDK Stuttgart drama school since 2019; he performed FÄLLE.FALLEN by Daniil Charms with students at the WILHELMA THEATER in 2020, and his current production DIE POLITIKER* by Wolfram Lotz - also with students from the drama course and the Jazz & Pop Institute - can be seen there until December 6, 2025 (Dernière).
