Lecture at the observatory on the innermost planet in our solar system. When the sky is clear, Mercury is then observed through the observatory's telescopes.
Mercury is difficult to observe because it is always close to the sun. However, the constellation is favorable at the moment, which serves as an opportunity to take a closer look at this planet. Mercury has a whole range of unusual characteristics. It is the planet with the highest day-night temperature difference, with the least circular orbit and the one most inclined to the ecliptic plane, and a broken-bound rotation: it rotates exactly three times on its own axis during two orbits around the sun. All these characteristics and the resulting, sometimes surprising, facts will be explained in detail in a lecture.
Afterwards - if the sky is clear enough - Mercury can be observed through the observatory's telescopes.
Admission is free, registration is not required.
