Tradwifes in search of a home: the story of radicalization
Hannah Lühmann and Mithu Sanyal
Moderation: Vatan Ukaj
The nationwide "heimaten Festival für die plurale Demokratie" initiated by the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin is also making a stop in Stuttgart: the journalist and writer Hannah Lühmann will be a guest at the Literaturhaus with her new novel "Heimat" - the story of the radicalization of a liberal young mother with a metropolitan background into a "tradwife". "Tradwife" invokes a concept of femininity that has been presented and propagated as a new lifestyle by social media influencers since the 2020s and sees the fulfillment of women in the household, child rearing and subordination to men, often underpinned by racist ideologies. Writer and academic Mithu Sanyal joins Hannah Lühmann in conversation. Both in her literature and in her academic texts, she cleverly and originally examines images of femininity, forms of sexualized violence, everyday racism and post-colonialism and has, among other things, written a contribution for the anthology "Eure Heimat ist unser Albtraum" published in 2019 - a critical analysis of the present from a post-migrant perspective. Brought into conversation by Vatan Ukaj from WERTansich(t), the authors will discuss concepts of home, gender images, longing and illusion.

An initiative by Haus der Kulturen der Welt as part of "heimaten", funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media; a cooperation between WERTansich(t), StadtPalais Stuttgart, Black Community Foundation Stuttgart e.V., Deutsch-Kurdisches Forum e.V. and Literaturhaus Stuttgart.

Admission: 14,-/12,-/7,- €
