Author reading and discussion with Michael Moos Moderated by Wolfgang Schorlau Hotel Silber as a place of remembrance
Michael Moos traces the history of his family, which was at home in Swabia for centuries before being forced to emigrate by the National Socialists or destroyed in the Holocaust. His parents had to flee from Ulm via London to Tel Aviv in 1933. Erna and Alfred Moos, a close relative of Albert Einstein, returned to Ulm in 1953 with their six-year-old son Michael. The author tells of his escape and painful return, of his childhood in Tel Aviv and Ulm as well as his departure and life as a left-wing student, lawyer and local councillor in Freiburg. He openly addresses intergenerational traumas, the search for identity and the sources of resilience.
This richly illustrated book combines personal memories with critical reflections on contemporary history. It is thus also a history of German-Jewish experience in the Federal Republic of Germany.
