Ungarn, Viktor Orbán und die unterwanderte Demokratie

Location:
Literaturhaus Stuttgart, Breitscheidstr. 4, 70174 Stuttgart

Talk with Petra Thorbrietz and Philipp Haußmann
Moderation: Felix Heidenreich
Elections will be held in Hungary on April 12 - a fateful election for Europe too. Because the country that was so important for German reunification and democracy in the East has changed.
For many years, the country was subsidized by the EU, which also helped to finance a process of change that is now viewed with concern. Viktor Orbán is backing a radical right-wing turnaround in Europe, according to Petra Thorbrietz in her book "Wir werden Europa erobern! Hungary, Viktor Orbán and the infiltrated democracy". Petra Thorbrietz will be joined by Philipp Haußmann, CEO of the Klett Group, and Felix Heidenreich, author and political scientist, who will moderate the discussion, two other experts on Hungary's political, economic and cultural spaces. Orbán has restructured the state more systematically than is perceived in German-speaking countries, says Haußmann. For example, he has transferred key research facilities and cultural institutions into foundations, in which the staff ensure that the line cannot be changed even after being voted out of office. This interview will shed light on what this means for culture and education in Hungary.

In cooperation with the International Center for Culture and Technology Research at the University of Stuttgart and the Wirtschaftsclub im Literaturhaus e.V.
