Lecture by Irene Ferchl (Salach)

Jella Lepman - a widow and mother of two small children - worked as a freelancer for various newspapers and magazines from the mid-1920s, primarily for the Stuttgarter Neues Tagblatt. She initiated its supplement Die Frau in Haus, Beruf und Gesellschaft in 1927 and was the editor in charge until 1933. It was published every 14 days with a high circulation of 65,000 copies, a generous layout, on topics ranging from art to cooking, education to fashion and with a strong women's political impetus. The lecture presents the supplement and relates it to Jella Lepman's biography.

Irene Ferchl is an author and cultural journalist. From 1993 to 2019, she was publisher and editor-in-chief of the Literaturblatt für Baden-Württemberg, and since 2020 she has been the editor-in-chief of Schwäbische Heimat.
