Three instruments, two composers—and two very different musical responses to memory, longing, and new beginnings.

Anush Nikoghosyan (violin), Diana Sahakyan (piano), and Vache Bagratuni (cello)—three outstanding musicians of Armenian descent—will come together in the Silcher Hall of Stuttgart’s Liederhalle.

The program opens with Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Trio élégiaque No. 1 in G minor. Even in this early work, the unmistakable soundscape that would later make Rachmaninoff famous begins to unfold: sweeping melodic arcs, deep melancholy, and music that oscillates between longing and inner turmoil.

This is followed by Arno Babadschanjian’s Piano Trio in F-sharp minor, one of the most significant Armenian chamber music works of the 20th century. From the expansive Largo through the lyrical Andante to the energetic Allegro vivace, an impressive musical drama unfolds: Contemplation gives way to movement; tension gives way to new energy.

Thus, this morning concert truly leads from elegy to a new beginning—and unites European and Armenian musical traditions in an extraordinary chamber music encounter.
