In "What remains of a person when so little remains?" on Sunday, February 15 and Monday, February 16, Annika Gerber deals with Jewish women artists in Stuttgart who were persecuted during National Socialism.
In an artistic search for traces, Annika Gerber combines the remaining works with biographical fragments and our imagination. Together we move between a documentary exhibition and the attempt to give back a piece of identity to those persecuted by National Socialism, who were made unrecognizable by the Shoah and the time gap.
What remains of a person when so little remains? And how do we remember when so much is missing?
The evening is dedicated to Jewish women artists in Stuttgart who were persecuted during National Socialism, deliberately focusing on a female Jewish perspective.
One highlight of the event is a performance about the Polish-Jewish painter Felka Platek, who had to flee from the Nazis together with her partner Felix Nussbaum and was deported to Auschwitz in 1944. While Nussbaum's work has long been known, little is known about Platek's life and art.
The first version of the performance on Felka Platek was developed by Annika Gerber and Rebecca Riegel in cooperation with the Theater and Museumsquartier Osnabrück.
As a prelude, a short guided tour of the nearby memorial site Zeichen der Erinnerung will be offered.
The guided tour is free of charge, the event in the project space is on a donation basis.
