Web Web is a German jazz band: Roberto di Gioia, Tony Lakatos, Christian von Kaphengst and Peter Gall. As classically trained musicians, the four have long been veterans of the German jazz scene and enjoy experimenting with each other.
Web Web recorded their first studio album "Oracle" in one day and only used unedited first recordings.
Roberto Di Gioia has worked with numerous jazz legends such as Woody Shaw, Art Farmer, James Moody, Johnny Griffin, Charlie Rouse, Clifford Jordan, Clark Terry, Roy Ayers, Gregory Porter and many more. At the beginning of 1990 he became a member of Klaus Doldinger's Passport.
Tony Lakatos comes from the famous Lakatos family from Budapest, Hungary. His father was a famous violinist, as was his younger brother Roby. He started playing the saxophone when he was 15 years old. Tony studied at the Bela Bartok Conservatory in Budapest, graduated in 1979 and has since played on over 350 jazz productions worldwide, including with Al Foster, Kirk Lightsey, Randy Brecker, George Mraz, David Witham, Terri Lyne Carrington, Anthony Jackson. Tony was a member of Jasper Van't Hof's band PILI PILI. He has been a soloist in the HR Radio Big Band since 1993.
Christian von Kaphengst began classical piano lessons at the age of 6 at the Peter Cornelius Conservatory in Mainz. From 1988 to 1995 he studied jazz double bass and instrumental pedagogy at the Musikhochschule in Cologne. His jazz quartet "Cafe du Sport" toured Pakistan, India, Turkey and West Africa on behalf of the Goethe Institute. Since 1999 he has been a regular bass player for Patti Austin and the New York Voices for European concerts. Von Kaphengst has played with Randy Brecker, Nat Adderley, Roy Hargrove, Joe Sample, Charlie Mariano, Katja Ebstein, Xavier Naidoo, Roachford and Yvonne Catterfeld, among others.
Peter Gall won first prizes at JugendJazzt at a young age and toured with the Bundesjazzorchester under the direction of Peter Herbholzheimer. He studied at the Berlin University of the Arts and at the Jazz Institute Berlin with John Hollenbeck. Gall completed his master's degree at the Manhattan School Of Music with John Riley. He has worked with Kurt Rosenwinkel, Seamus Blake, Ben Street, Gabriel Rios, Jasmin Tabatabai, Thomas Quasthoff and Peter Fessler, among others.
