As part of the Stg. theme week "Von Superkräften und Alltagsheld*innen", the Werkstatthaus is presenting the film on 20.05.26: "I, Daniel Blake" by Ken Loach
With the new film series IN ARBEIT, Werkstatthaus Stuttgart is launching a regular film and discussion format that deals with work as a reality of life, a social relationship and a personal experience. In six film evenings, the series will show international auteur films that move beyond classic success stories and instead focus on everyday life, precarity, dignity and self-determination. "I, Daniel Blake" by Ken Loach will kick off the series on 20.05.26 at 8 pm - a haunting film about bureaucracy, structural violence and the question of dignity in a system that reduces people to their usability.
The film exemplifies the thematic focus of the series: work is not treated here as an abstract concept, but as a concrete experience in the field of tension between dependency, resistance and self-assertion, followed by films such as Nomadland, Sans toit ni loi, Wendy and Lucy or Paterson - works that are characterized by a precise cinematic style and do not explain social reality, but make it tangible.
IN ARBEIT sees film as more than mere projection: as an aesthetic space of experience in which perception, emotion and reflection come together. Each evening is supplemented by a curatorial intro and an open discussion. The talks are deliberately designed as dialogs and invite the audience to contribute their own perspectives.
