Winterreise

Oliver Welter, musician and singer of the Austrian cult band NAKED LUNCH, teamed up with pianist, sound and performance artist Clara Frühstück for this euphoric border crossing.

At the invitation of the Burgtheater, the result is a new interpretation of Franz Schubert's song cycle "Winterreise" that is as radical as it is emotionally moving, which was celebrated with standing ovations and enthusiastic media reactions at its premiere in June 2021 at the Akademietheater.

Perhaps a turning point in the reception of this existential masterpiece by Franz Schubert and Wilhelm Müller, whose eerily beautiful essence Welter and Frühstück get to the bottom of with an increased understanding of pop and passionate precision. A moving journey directly into the dark soul of the world's most famous song cycle.
