Swabian Forest Railway

Please note:

The storm at the weekend also hit the railway line between Schorndorf and Welzheim hard. There is massive damage to the tracks on both the valley route and the mountain route, which is mainly used by tourists. The full extent of the damage on the almost 23 km long route is not yet known as of Thursday. Many areas are not yet accessible and still have to be inspected, so assessing the damage alone will take time. It is not possible to operate the route for an indefinite period of time. Mayor Thomas Bernlöhr says: "As a precaution, all trips on the Swabian Forest Railway are being cancelled until further notice, but at least until the end of July. The holiday traffic that was actually planned during the summer holidays is in jeopardy." Ticket sales for the Swabian Forest Railway have been suspended until then, and the operator DBK Historische Bahn e.V. advises against booking. Guests who already have a ticket until the end of July have already been informed by email about the next steps. Despite force majeure, passengers will not be left with tickets they have already purchased. However, the voluntary operator DBK will take some time to process the process, and we ask for your understanding. The current status of the damage to the route, the structural approaches to repairing it and the timeline will be communicated on the Schwäbische Waldbahn website. The history of the Swabian Forest Railway began in the year 1911. The track from the departure point in Schorndorf to the terminus in Welzheim is around 22.9 km long. And it's demanding: the railway line through the Swabian Forest is not just one of the loveliest, but also one of the steepest in Baden-Württemberg.

From May to October it's "full steam ahead" for the historic steam and diesel trains every Sunday and on public holidays. A unique outing, not only for technology-mad train enthusiasts, but also for families and day trippers. Each of the stops invites you to enjoy a varied tour of discovery.
