The Marquardtbau Stuttgart has stood on the corner of Königstraße and today's Bolzstraße since 1858. Until the Second World War, the building with its Wilhelminian architecture was one of the most elegant hotels in Stuttgart with an international guest list and upscale gastronomy. Many celebrities from the aristocracy, politics, business and culture were guests here. In 1864, the composer Richard Wagner stayed here while fleeing from his creditors, where a messenger from the Bavarian King Ludwig II brought him an invitation to Munich. Wagner gladly accepted the invitation, but the messenger had to settle his bill at the Hotel Marquardt first.

The building, which was rebuilt after the war, is no longer a hotel - it houses stores, a cinema and restaurants as well as the "Comedy at the Marquardt" housed here -
a well-known Stuttgart boulevard theater where many famous actors from Heinz Rühmann to Inge Meysel have played.
