The SWR Symphony Orchestra emerged from the merger of the SWR Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart and the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden and Freiburg in September 2016.
In addition to new music, its profile includes symphonic orchestral literature from previous eras as well as interpretative approaches from historically informed performance practice. Teaching challenging music to all age groups is also a central concern. The orchestra is present in SWR's own concert series in Stuttgart, Freiburg and Mannheim, as well as in major music capitals in Germany and abroad.
Teodor Currentzis has been Chief Conductor of the SWR Symphony Orchestra since September 2018.
