999 | British punk rock veterans celebrate their fiftieth anniversary
It's not just "50 years of punk" that can be celebrated this year - these British punk rock veterans can also celebrate their fiftieth anniversary! Formed in London in 1976 by guitarist Nick Cash (who had previously played with IAN DURY in KILBURN & THE HIGH ROADS) and his brother Guy Days and named after the UK's universal emergency number, the quartet gave their first concert in January 1977. Their debut album followed the following year, including the track "Emergency", which was included in "Mojo" magazine's list of the best punk songs of all time. And "Homicide" from their second longplayer "Separates" was not played by the BBC due to controversial lyrics, but made it into the English Top 40 even without airplay and can be heard today in the soundtrack of "Grand Theft Auto V". The band, whose line-up has included Arturo Bassick from THE LURKERS for quite some time now, is finally coming back to Stuttgart to celebrate its milestone birthday!
