75 Years of the SWR Big Band

NORDIC VOICES & LET THE RUNDFUNK ROLL
The best is saved for last—and with that in mind, the SWR Big Band is wrapping up its anniversary year with two distinct programs in one evening.
“Let the Rundfunk Roll” is a declaration of love for the band’s musicians. After 10 years of performing together on stage, Artist in Residence Magnus Lindgren has written tailor-made compositions and arrangements for the band’s soloists. The goal is to showcase the musicians as virtuoso all-rounders with a distinct individual style, while simultaneously presenting the band as a musical total work of art.
The second part of the evening brings the radiant “Northern Lights” to the Liederhalle. The Scandinavian singers Silje Nergaard, Sinne Eeg, and Isabella Lundgren embody the best of Scandinavian jazz; whether jazz standards or singer-songwriter repertoire, they leave nothing to be desired. With this segment of the program, the SWR Big Band, featuring Magnus Lindgren, will premiere the CD and double LP recorded during their joint concerts in 2024.
Conclusion—an impressive finale to the extraordinary 75th anniversary year of the SWR Big Band.
