Acht Jahreszeiten

All it takes is hearing the first few notes of a summer thunderstorm, and your imagination runs wild. The opening of the Presto from Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” (1725) is something like the “Tatatataa” of the Baroque era; it breaks all records for popularity and sends a jolt through your limbs every single time. Just as electrifying are the “Four Seasons of Buenos Aires,” which Astor Piazzolla—the father of Tango Nuevo—and his octet, consisting of two bandoneons, two violins, piano, cello, electric guitar, and double bass, starting in the late 1960s. “Las cuatro estaciones porteñas” pay homage to Vivaldi from the Southern Hemisphere in tango rhythm, with virtuosic flourishes and touches of Baroque, contemporary music, and jazz. Within just a few bars, they transport us to the stifling heat of the Argentine summer, the bittersweet mood of autumn, the tango nights of winter, and a Buenos Aires awakening with all its senses in spring. Special guest soloists will perform for this memorable evening. As part of TONALi, the SKO and two young violin talents present “The Eight Seasons” for strings in its purest form! The concert is part of the TONALi Tour, in which three schools collaborate with the young violinists to organize innovative concerts at their schools. And for the “Sternstunde” as the grand finale, the young people are also involved in planning, marketing, event execution, and hosting.
