“It’s great to have you here! And not there…” What starts out as a compliment can quickly backfire these days. Is it okay to say what you really think openly these days? Anka Zink says a resounding “Yes,” and makes it clear: it all depends on the “how.”
Is it okay to give deodorant as a gift? Yes, of course. Just never to someone who needs it. Sometimes it’s simply better to say nothing. Or to make more of an effort to find the right words.
In doing so, Anka Zink effortlessly bridges the gap from the personal to the political and the social, conveying the message: As long as there’s humor, we can keep things under control. She doubts that everything was better in the past. “We used to be younger—that was better,” is her laconic comment.
Striking a balance between what might offend some and what others find funny, the sociologist with a master’s degree creates a fireworks display of punchlines. After all, we all talk a lot, but we no longer talk to one another—instead, we often talk past each other. Or we’re talking to an AI that isn’t on our level.
Thanks to Anka Zink, the audience is inspired to realize that humor and empathy can make life a little easier. Cabaret with heart and mind—Anka Zink is comedy gold!
