Feel-good factor or pure necessity? Houses serve as personal retreats and places of representation. Their furnishings reveal contemporary tastes, but also reflect social circumstances. Roman wall paintings and floor mosaics indicate wealth and serve representative purposes. In addition to the function, an aesthetic claim emerged early on.

We look at living concepts in ancient Rome and its provinces, from the villa rustica to the thermal baths, the ancient wellness temples. Beautiful living without neglecting practical use. People back then knew how to do this. The dialog between explanations of selected archaeological objects from the Württemberg State Museum and the reading of poetic and philosophical texts from antiquity to the present day reveals ideas for a stylish home.
