The power and energy of the lyrics can stir us both socially and emotionally, hitting the mark. But how do artists do this? What is the first ingredient of a song—the music or the lyrics? How do musicians write lyrics across their various genres, what influences them, where do they find their subject matter, and how do they express it through language? And how do these songs then make their way onto the stage? Are the lyrics and music given a different weight through the performance? Do the songs only truly come to life on stage?
