BERTA EPPLE unterm Baum

It had been in the works ever since the Tango Five days. It never came to fruition. But now the guys from Berta Epple have finally made their dream come true and treated themselves—and us—to a sparkling, swinging, and fragrant Christmas program. The accompanying CD is also “fresh off the press” under the tree.
Gregor Hübner, Bobbi Fischer, and Veit Hübner have rearranged their personal favorite Christmas songs for this project, in some cases writing new lyrics and harmonizing them in three-part harmony. The result is a revue in which Bavarian devotional yodels coexist harmoniously with soulful grooves, like the ox and the donkey in the stable in Bethlehem. Jazz ballads alternate with fervent English anthems. Sometimes in German, sometimes in English, and finally: in Swabian too! The band members’ rousing, virtuoso skills on their instruments are certainly not overlooked. (A breakneck sleigh ride in 7/8 time included!) Finally, very personal experiences with the Festival of Festivals—in the form of funny anecdotes, poems, and stories—round out the festive feast. Berta Epple’s show is a gift you won’t want to exchange.
Happy Holidays!
