Decadance
Decadance is not a dance piece; Decadance is a playground! Ohad Naharin created it in 2000 as a birthday gift to himself, marking ten years as artistic director of the Batsheva Dance Company. From the very beginning, Decadance was conceived as a journey of discovery, with the goal of playfully exploring and rearranging his choreographic work. Even the very first Decadance combined short excerpts from his works, which come together like a kaleidoscope to form a new whole. Ohad Naharin has remained true to this principle. Of course, the pool of pieces from which the Israeli master draws has grown over the years. Consequently, Decadance has long since ceased to be found exclusively in Batsheva’s repertoire; it is now performed by leading companies worldwide. This makes Naharin all the more careful to create a version for each company that truly suits it.
He has done this once before for Gauthier Dance. In 2019, “Decadance” was part of the COLOURS opening premiere, “Classy Classics.” The Gauthier Dance version of “Decadance” for 2027 will, of course, not be a simple revival, but a reimagined playground. Especially since, unlike the mixed program from back then, the goal this time is a full-length evening performance. It will be fascinating to see what the creator of Gaga comes up with for Gauthier Dance this time...
