In cooperation with the Bad Cannstatt City Museum, the historical association Pro Alt-Cannstatt is presenting a special exhibition on the history of the famous equestrian monument to King Wilhelm I of Württemberg in front of the Großer Kursaal Bad Cannstatt.

150 years ago, on September 27, 1875, the equestrian monument to King Wilhelm I of Württemberg was inaugurated in the presence of the royal family. Just six years later, the monument was moved from Wilhelmsplatz to the Großer Kursaal. It still stands there today and bears witness to the veneration that the monarch enjoyed among the state's middle classes. The exhibition sheds light on the history of its creation, from the monument committee and the artist Johann von Halbig to its erection, the inauguration celebrations and the reasons for its relocation... and thus also the history of a piece of Cannstatt identity.
