The Lion Laughs
A sing-along and interactive circus show for children ages 4–10, by and starring Christof and Vladi Altmann.
As always, circus directors Christofferus Wackelzahn and Ladulina—“from the world-famous Pepperoni circus family”—welcome the audience with the words: “Come on in and don’t be shy!”
And of course, they announce the lion as the first major attraction. But, darn it, he doesn’t want to this time either—all by himself, in front of so many people? With the children’s help, he finally plucks up the courage and sings
his song “The Lion Laughs” together with them. But the rest of the Christmas Song Circus would also be unthinkable without the audience’s help. After all, the markswoman
and the magician have such bad stomachaches that they can’t perform again. Not to mention the riders. In between acts, the “Sultan of Arabia” visits the circus
as a guest of honor on his “original flying carpet,” the dragon Fridolin breathes fire, and there are a few other surprises in store. When it finally comes down to it: “What would it be like to watch a circus
without that one guy, the funny one, the clown?”—a colorful hour of circus entertainment, peppered with songs
to sing along to and join in on, will have flown by in the blink of an eye. The Altmanns are once again accompanied by the fabulous “Pepperoni-Wackelzahn” circus band: Bobbi Fischer on piano, Gregor Hübner on violin,
and Veit Hübner on double bass. So: Come on in and don’t be shy!
