The young Count Octavian Rofrano has at least what the old Ochs auf Lerchenau carries around with him in terms of heritage. What's more, he looks dazzling and is also a fine fellow. So fine and so perfect and, above all, so completely different from everything that surrounds her that Sophie wants to die as soon as he presents her with a silver rose. And since returning is always a problem, especially when it comes to the past, she suspects: "And if it were my death." It will never be as beautiful as it could have been. In their second collaboration, Axel Ranisch and Nicholas Carter trace the finely chiseled aestheticism of the Rosenkavalier score and stage what is probably the most melancholy comedy of all time as an ice-cold fairy tale.
