Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière *THE FIRST NAME* Social Comedy
What name should you give your child? Taste, morality, and the spirit of the times all play an important role in this question. The play about the dispute over a first name was a huge success both on stage and on the big screen.
It’s supposed to be a harmonious dinner with friends and family. But then Vincent announces that he and his pregnant fiancée, Anna, have decided to name their son Adolphe. A heated argument breaks out, during which more and more secrets come to light. The bourgeois facade begins to crumble, and little by little, everyone reveals their true colors.
The play by the well-known writing duo Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière was first successfully adapted into a film in France. In 2018, Sönke Wortmann created a German version with an all-star cast, including Christoph Maria Herbst, Florian David Fitz, and Iris Berben. This was followed by the sequels “Der Nachname” and “Der Spitzname.”
This intimate play is directed by Ute Willing, who most recently put on a cheerful show at the Komödie im Marquardt with “Auf Herz und Niere” and is an expert in thought-provoking comedies. The enthusiastic ensemble, led by Stefanie Klimkait and Marius Hubel as the host couple, engages in heated verbal exchanges, combining sharp wit with social criticism and satire.
