DIE AUSSTELLUNG – Klasse Choi

Open Thursdays, Sundays, and holidays, 12:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m. | Closed on December 24, 2026, and January 1, 2027

An exhibition by the Choi class, State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart

Students in the sculpture class present sculptural works in the Weissenhof Workshop in the Mies van der Rohe House. The title is a reference to the poster designed by Willi Baumeister in 1927 for the Werkbund exhibition “DIE WOHNUNG.”

The starting point is the Weissenhof Estate’s historical function as an exhibition and showcase for new forms of living and building. This relationship between art, architecture, and presentation is spatially explored in the exhibition.

As a central element, a room-filling pedestal is created for DIE AUSSTELLUNG, upon which the artists’ individual works are displayed. The pedestal presumes to be read as an architectural design for the Weissenhofsiedlung itself and compels visitors to navigate the space in an entirely new way.

In this spatial context, the students’ individual works enter into a dialogue with one another as well as with their architectural surroundings. Thematically, they engage in various ways with the Weissenhofsiedlung, the Bauhaus, and the associated concepts of architecture, housing, and life, and transpose these into a new context.
