This fictitious threat stimulates the imagination of the seven Swabians to come up with ludicrous realizations, for their minds are not sufficient to distinguish reality from delusion.
The myth of the seven Swabians is a hearty satire about braggadocio, delusion, stupidity and monstrous idiocy. After defeating a phantom, deluded dolts believe themselves to be in possession of true intellect and prize-worthy heroism and, without realizing it, erect a monument to eternal stupidity.
