Indian Film Festival Stuttgart: Three documentaries and a short film on craft techniques and traditions
In "The Spinning Experience" by Pankaj Sekhsaria, the film team accompanies 30 students from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay as they learn hand spinning on the charkha. The film explores the importance of skill, work and sustainability.
"Strings" by Parth Shashikant Ghaskadbi takes us to the city of Amalner, Maharashtra, where the business of handmade shevai, an Indian noodle specialty, is flourishing. The film shows the production and life of the traditional manufacturers who are struggling with industrial changes.
"The Shape and the Sound" by Madhu Apsara tells the story of the young sculptor Kunal Joshi, who is asked to build the musical instrument Rudra-Veena for the old master Ustad Mohi Bahuaddin Dagar and embarks on a spiritual journey.
In "Weave of Culture" by Ram Mavuri, a university graduate tries to support his family by working in a handloom workshop. His success in sewing a valuable sari leads him to take up his father's craft again.
