A jug was broken in young Eve’s room during the night. Her mother therefore takes the matter to the small village court. What happened, and what is really going on? Did Ruprecht, Eve’s boyfriend, sneak into her room at night? And why is the village judge, Adam, acting so strangely? Is he himself involved in the incident?
In *Eve and The Broken Jug*, we let Eve take center stage and follow her perspective on the incident and the trial itself. In the process, the power structures that lead those involved and those being questioned to draw absurd conclusions and fail to recognize the obvious are gradually revealed. Eve must fight this battle alone.
Two female actors and one male actor unravel Heinrich von Kleist’s drama and offer a new perspective on this classic, which continues to captivate audiences today with its linguistic wit and sharp political-satirical insight.
