FEMALE INSTINCTS—a unique and exciting jazz
crossover program that speaks from the heart: the words
of various female poets have been transformed into
compositions by Katrin Avison and Tizian Jost into
wonderful songs that approach the cosmos of instinct—sometimes powerfully, sometimes tenderly—
in an associative and sensual way.
In an age that seeks to illuminate the human soul down to the last detail and make it predictable,
FEMALE INSTINCTS stands as a counterpoint, celebrating the instinctive—that which, consciously or
unconsciously, drives and connects us. And it does so from a feminine perspective that, transcending
stereotypical gender clichés, bestows a sonic space upon the universally human and intuitive in all its dazzling
multicolored richness.
The poems set to music by Emily Dickinson, Hannah Arendt, Rose Ausländer, Else Lasker-Schüler,
and Katrin Avison feature a vivid, sensual language that, in its simplicity, goes straight to the heart.
The protective instinct, the urge to flee, the longing for connection, or the phenomenon of premonition
— this fascinating jazz duo explores the mystery of our multifaceted instincts and,
through its wonderful music, opens the doors to the richness of our own intuitive worlds.
In early 2027, “Female Instincts” will be released as Katrin Avison’s debut album on o-tone music.
