Finnish Poetry
Thursday, Dec. 10, 7:00 p.m.
Some say that Santa Claus comes from Finland in his reindeer-drawn sleigh to shower us with gifts. But Finland is also home to a unique tradition of poetry, which we’ll be exploring at our zwischen/lese event this December. We’ll explore texts that at times evoke the poignantly austere charm of Aki Kaurismäki’s films, at times surprise with unexpected connections to classical modernism, and at times blend the mythical and the natural with urban life and the present moment. To accompany our discussion, we’ll be serving Joulutorttu, Riisipuuro, and Luumurahka. If you’d like to find out what these are—and get to know Finnish poetry along the way—just stop by! We look forward to bringing the year to a close together with poetry.
