Maurice Béjart created grand revues and stage spectacles, but also mastered the quiet, reduced form. The choreographer would have been 100 years old in 2027. To mark the occasion, the Stuttgart Ballet is paying tribute to Béjart, whose artistic path repeatedly intersected with that of the company. With Gaîté Parisienne, Béjart celebrated his love of dance and Paris. At the heart of the colorful revue is a young ballet student. Instead of training, he escapes into dream worlds - until he finds his destiny through imaginative detours. Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen touches in a more subtle way. Set to Gustav Mahler's powerful music, a journeyman sets off on a journey in search of the meaning of life. The intense, technically demanding pas de deux for two men tells of inner struggles, love and death. Alone on a round table, his pelvis gyrating to the constantly swelling music: in Bolero, the main character dances himself into ecstasy. Surrounded by a strong ensemble, the main character embodies the pulsating rhythm until movement and music merge in a crescendo.
