The Baden-Württemberg Chamber Choir is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a festive concert. The most famous oratorio by George Frideric Handel will be performed: The Messiah.
It is based on biblical texts from the King James Bible and the Book of Common Prayer and was composed in the summer of 1741 and premiered in Dublin on April 13, 1742.

The work is still one of the most popular examples of sacred music in the Christian West. In three parts, it covers the Christian history of salvation, beginning with the Old Testament prophecies of prophets such as Isaiah, the life of Jesus, who is seen as the fulfillment of the prophecies, his birth, his death on the cross and his hoped-for second coming. Although the life is depicted in the New Testament, the oratorio text draws predominantly on the Old Testament.

The Baden-Württemberg Chamber Choir was founded in 1985 as the Baden-Württemberg Young Chamber Choir. Since then, it has been one of the most outstanding chamber choirs in the state. As a state-wide ensemble, it is supported directly by the state government of Baden-Württemberg and the Cultural Office of the City of Stuttgart. The choir is a member of the Association of German Concert Choirs (VDKC).

With selected choir members from all over Baden-Württemberg, extraordinary and demanding concert programs can be realized. Its work focuses on a cappella choral music and the great works of classical choral symphonic music. A special feature is the regular collaboration with composers, musicians and event organizers beyond the usual genre boundaries.
