Live reportage by and with Gereon Roemer & Martin Buschmann

When Martin Buschmann and Gereon Roemer are sitting together one evening, Martin talks
Martin talks about his home in Sicily. He was born and grew up on the island and still remembers trips in the family car. When his parents later moved to Germany, they took the car with them. It's called Luigi, and it's not just any car, it's a 1967 Fiat 500, an Italian legend. And suddenly the two of them have the idea: "Let's take Luigi to Sicily, Luigi has to go home!"
But it quickly becomes clear that this journey will not be easy: Will a man 1.88 meters tall and weighing 100 kg fit into an old Fiat Cinquecento? Can Luigi manage the steep roads over the Alps? Is there enough room in the car for all the luggage? And where are those strange engine noises coming from?
When the three of them finally set off, they have no idea how long the journey will take. It takes several attempts to reach Sicily, because Luigi is a vintage car and technical breakdowns are the order of the day. But Luigi is also a heartbreaker! The people on the road wave to him and time and again Luigi makes personal contact with the Italians.
In this entertaining live reportage, we experience the culinary, historical and scenic highlights of Italy, the land of longing, as well as stories about the hardships and moments of happiness of such a journey. Giving up is not an option, because everyone has a common goal: Luigi has to go home!
