“Gifts from Heaven. Can You Collect Clouds?”—asks Florian Illies in the first public presentation of his private collection of cloud photographs at the Literaturhaus, accompanied by the exhibition catalog of the same name (Schirmer/Mosel). For millennia, clouds drifted across the earth, free and aimless. Until the early 19th century, when people suddenly began to capture them in art and literature, seeking to hold on to them. Joining him is the multi-award-winning poet and translator Jan Wagner, who, among other works, has written a sestina inspired by John Constable’s cloud studies and has been following the movement of clouds in various ways for many years.
