"Ranisch's pictures have heart, wit and imagination, they offer fun for children and food for thought for adults," stated the Stuttgarter Nachrichten newspaper after the premiere of Axel Ranisch's new production in 2022. This season, the most famous fairytale opera of all is back on the opera stage. But what if the fairytale forest burns down? And food becomes scarce? The Crispy Witch promises to solve the supply problem for everyone. Hansel and Gretel find out how the sweets she distributes are made: from highly dubious ingredients. But how the witch is defeated and there is hope despite all the gloom is best found out together with children!
