Hans Well & Die Wellbappn

Location:
Renitenztheater, Büchsenstr. 26, 70174 Stuttgart

For little getaways after the birth of a second child, nothing beats loading up the car with instruments and sharing the stage with an older gentleman. After Jonas and Tabea Well left the group for career reasons (they were determined to pursue “respectable” professions), Sarah Well—the eldest daughter of musical cabaret artist Hans Well (Biermösl Blosn, Wellbappn)—persuaded her father to create a new show.
With the brilliant dulcimer player and versatile musician Komalé Akakpo, the duo soon became a trio. Hans and Sarah quickly realized that Komalé comes from somewhere else entirely—from Swabia. Otherwise, though, he was just fine and has since integrated well into the group. Plus, he adds a little color to the stage.
Since mid-2024, this extremely diverse trio (a woman, a half-African man, and an old white man) has been on the road, performing at small theaters and taverns as well as in beer tents. At each venue, they enlist the help of local volunteers, with whose assistance they compose a tailor-made opening text for every performance, which then celebrates its world premiere there.

Sarah, a violist for 13 years, saxophonist, accordionist, and soprano with the Wellbappn, sets the drafts of lyricist, guitarist, and alphorn amateur Hans Well to music alongside the hammered dulcimer virtuoso, bassist, and top-notch musician Komalé during “Guided Singing”. No genre is off-limits—they don’t even shy away from a hammered dulcimer reggae.
Even in their new lineup, the Wellbappn guarantee politically sharp, witty musical cabaret and the best Bavarian satire. Best enjoyed with beer, a snack, and wine. Warning! If you’re drinking Öttinger, Paulaner, or Warsteiner, please consult your doctor or pharmacist first.
