Hendrik Brehmer

Location:
Renitenztheater, Büchsenstr. 26, 70174 Stuttgart

“What the hell is this?!”
—that’s a question everyone has probably asked themselves at some point. Hendrik Brehmer asks it regularly. Life is complicated, and while many try to get by somehow or just accept things as they are, he does exactly the opposite: He doesn’t just accept anything. But he doesn’t change anything either. Instead, he gets a little worked up about it. In his first solo show, “bisschen reingesteigert,” Hendrik takes the audience along on his very personal journey of feeling overwhelmed: a 30-year-old, caught somewhere between fatherhood, his relationship, and everything else—and the pressing question: “Where’s my Lego Technic, anyway?” He actually wanted to understand the universe as a physicist. Today he’s a comedian—and doesn’t even understand his own feelings or why there are so many different kinds of pasta. On stage, he’s a young adult overwhelmed by his fears—and afraid of becoming even more overwhelmed.

Hendrik Brehmer doesn’t want to explain the world—he couldn’t do that anyway. But he shows just how absurd the attempt to make sense of it all is. With dry humor, honest stories, and an eye for the absurd, he talks about his grandmother’s views, his father’s missing leg, and what it’s like to start a family in the capital as a child from a small town in East Germany. Hendrik shows that the truth doesn’t always have to be comfortable to be funny. Real-life stories. Not Disney.

In the end, Hendrik is simply trying to find a bit of serenity amid the chaos through creativity and empathy. Will he succeed? Find out—LIVE on stage.
