The renowned Brenzhaus Orchestra under the direction of Christopher Jöckel makes a guest appearance in Liebfrauen. As part of the hora caecilia concert series, it offers a fascinating insight into the emotional world of Romanticism.

They will perform the "Italian Symphony" by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and the Cello Concerto in A minor by Robert Schumann. With these two works, the ensemble demonstrates three things: its high musical quality, the fact that existential themes are not only found in oratorios, and the different approaches of the two composers. Both shed light on the motifs of creation and love, but from radically different angles. On the one hand, Mendelssohn's symphony celebrates the divine creation and the beauty of nature with bright, vital music and cheerful tones. The slow movement in particular, often interpreted as a pilgrimage procession, lends the symphony a spiritual depth.
Schumann's musical declaration of love to his wife
Robert Schumann, on the other hand, dedicates his cello concerto to human love. The cello takes on the role of the human voice. It makes a deep, emotional commitment to a perfect world in which love becomes the perfection of creation. Music historians often interpret this work as a declaration of love by Schumann to his wife Clara. Both masterpieces allow us to understand how Romanticism viewed the divine in nature and in the human heart.
