“House of Banksy”: The pop-up exhibition about the street art superstar!

The creators of the hit exhibition “The Mystery of Banksy – A Genius Mind” present their next exhibition highlight about the street art superstar: “House of Banksy – An Unauthorized Exhibition.” Together, these two exhibition formats have already captivated more than four million visitors worldwide, making them among the most successful and most-visited Banksy exhibitions ever.

Graffiti, photographs, sculptures, video installations, and prints on various materials—such as canvas, fine art paper, wood, aluminum, plaster, concrete, and brick—have been specially reproduced and curated for this exhibition. In an elaborate and unique setting, visitors are offered a comprehensive insight into the complete body of work of this exceptional artist. Due to his continued anonymity, this tribute and the image installations on display have not been authorized by the artist himself. Approximately 80% of all the graffiti and artwork motifs on display are now barely accessible—if at all—in their original form. They were removed, torn down, destroyed, painted over, or ripped from the walls and subsequently auctioned off for large sums of money. Some of them, particularly his silkscreen prints, are now in private collections or in the possession of art dealers.

The no less impressive reproductions, which are created and spray-painted live on-site by an internationally renowned team of graffiti artists specifically for each exhibition, allow viewers to follow in Banksy’s footsteps and make his art comprehensible and tangible up close in a way never seen before. “In this way, we want to make the works—and above all, the message behind each of his actions and pieces—accessible to the public once again and highlight how important it is to protect the few remaining originals in public spaces. For the reasons outlined, it is not possible to stage an exhibition of this scale featuring originals,” says Oliver Forster, the exhibition’s producer.

The exhibition “House of Banksy – An Unauthorized Exhibition” brings the message of this artistic genius to a wider audience without requiring them to travel far. Here, visitors can see Banksy’s most famous street art works in one place and engage with his exploration of various pressing issues—such as war, xenophobia, police violence, refugees, capitalism, global warming, violence against women, CCTV, and even the COVID-19 pandemic in a completely different way. A major Austrian daily newspaper wrote: “A Banksy exhibition is like a spray-painted reflection of society”—and a Banksy exhibition is always timely and in tune with the spirit of the times. Banksy aims to inspire and move people with his art, while at the same time polarizing them and prompting reflection. There is no other artist quite like him who consistently manages to make a media splash with his often spectacular and well-thought-out actions. He does not use his art to draw attention to himself or his latest work, but rather to highlight injustices and pressing issues that we are all too eager to turn a blind eye to. He selects his locations very deliberately and carefully. This is likely one of the reasons Banksy is undoubtedly one of the most significant artists of our time. He is also often referred to by the media and experts as the modern-day Robin Hood.
