Johann Sebastian Bach: Christmas Oratorio, Parts I–VI
Few works are as closely associated with the Christmas season as Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio. Through its choruses, arias, and narrative recitatives, Bach unfolds the Christmas story as a musically moving narrative.
Today, the six cantatas are rarely performed together as a complete cycle. That is why we invite you to hear Bach’s great work in its dramatic entirety: as a musical arc that leads from the Annunciation of Christ’s birth to the adoration of the newborn King.
We are delighted to have Johanna Zimmer (soprano), Marion Eckstein (alto), Jan Petryka (tenor), and Jakob Kunath (bass) perform the solo parts. Together with the ensemble il capriccio, which specializes in historically informed performance, and the Württemberg Chamber Choir, they will bring Bach’s Christmas Oratorio to life in all its sonic diversity. Lukas Grimm will serve as musical director.
