In Vodka Veritas
Freedom is wonderful. But background and money are even more, more wonderful!
Pride, greed, lust, wrath, gluttony, envy, sloth. In classical theology, these character traits are still considered deadly sins. Well, the Church has long since outlived its usefulness as a moral authority.
So why not indulge in all seven vices in a single evening?
But how does that work?
How do two adults—siblings who are quite open-minded, liberal, and from the middle class—manage to display such irreverent behavior? It’s actually quite simple. You bequeath them a house.
You bequeath them a big, wonderful house where they both grew up. Then you leave them alone with this house. Wait until the last funeral guests have left and the house is completely silent.
Well, there’s the sobering sight of the water at the end of the property. Cold water in which their father ended his life. But these things don’t have a particularly lasting effect. Besides, there’s still plenty of vodka in the house, and who can blame the two sisters for having a glass or two in memory of their father? Plus, the vodka warms you up so nicely and makes it easier to open up to each other.
And there we have it: 7 deadly sins in less than two hours. Admittedly, lust seems to be more the one sister’s thing, while gluttony is all the more the other’s.
Have you inherited anything?
Do you know what a “legacy of abstention” is?
No? Consider yourself lucky!
