Lappland - Europas wilder Norden
- Location:
- Lindenmuseum Stuttgart, Hegelplatz 1, 70174 Stuttgart
In the far north of Europe, north of the Arctic Circle, lies a very special region. For some, it is Europe’s last wilderness; for others, a place of peace, quiet, and vast open spaces: Lapland! The region spans four different countries: Northern Norway, Northern Sweden, Northern Finland, and the far northwestern tip of Russia. Its population density is among the lowest in all of Europe. Moose, bears, wolverines, and arctic foxes share the taiga, tundra, and mountainous regions with thousands of reindeer. Along the coasts, puffins nest and white-tailed eagles circle overhead.
The Sami, the indigenous people of this “land,” have lived here for thousands of years. In the past, they followed the reindeer on their long migrations… and even today, the animals play an important role in the lives of this indigenous people.
Bernd Römmelt has been traveling through this region for over 20 years. On foot, by kayak, by car, and sometimes even by helicopter, he set out to explore this wild land throughout all four seasons. Come along with us to one of Europe’s most beautiful, wildest, yet also most endangered regions. Let yourself be enchanted by spectacular coastal landscapes, mysterious forests, vast tundras, and the fantastic Northern Lights. Come along to Lapland—Europe’s wild north.
