Mitteleuropapperlapapp – Spoken Word! Concert
Timo Brunke and the Hölderlin Spoken Word Band
The Stuttgart-based group “Hölderlin Spoken Word Band,” led by stage poet Timo Brunke,
celebrates the spoken word through a variety of musical means. Saxophone, guitar, looper,
and drums perform and jam with the poet’s voice; the result is
miniature musical dramas, where everyday speech becomes an acoustic “aha” moment, and humor and profundity come together.
In the stage jazz program accompanying his new poetry collection “Mitteleuropapperlapapp,” the
spoken-word poet tugs at the curtains of reality, gently lifting them—and lo and behold:
amidst the lovingly maintained facades of our coexistence, little remains
as it was. What’s more: hardly anything was ever as it seemed. But that doesn’t matter: We’ll
simply readjust—right in the midst of the transition!
The ballads, snapshots, and observations of human nature gathered here help
us do just that. They amuse, foster closeness and distance, and offer new perspectives on the familiar. Worn-out
notions of life shimmer in rhymes and verses of smug intimacy.
Voices from open-plan offices, streets, and squares meet the inner monologues of
neighbors, adversaries, and best friends.
The nonsense of these pieces speaks volumes. An evening for ballad fans and
Beethoven lovers, physics buffs, Dada connoisseurs, and beautiful souls—all
in spite of the passage of time. Deeply penetrating, easy-listening poetry.
