Reading and discussion with Winfried Kretschmann, moderated by Peter Unfried

Winfried Kretschmann makes no secret of the fact that he has long been inspired by Hannah Arendt, the 50th anniversary of whose death will be celebrated in December. The controversial German-American thinker is now regarded as a modern classic of political philosophy. Courageous, passionate and unconventional, she argued for the coexistence of different people who shape their world together. Her credo: the meaning of politics is freedom. This makes Arendt a pioneer of an active civil society in which politics is a matter for all of us. Winfried Kretschmann explains how he discovered Hannah Arendt as a young man, how her understanding of politics changed his view of the world and has shaped his political actions ever since. And he shows how Hannah Arendt can give us support and orientation at a time when old certainties are being lost. The evening marks the start of the new series "Oh! Hannah Arendt", which will be exploring Arendt's central ideas in literary, artistic and philosophical terms in a loose sequence and in various formats.

An event cooperation between Hospitalhof, Evangelisches Bildungszentrum, Heinrich Böll Foundation and Literaturhaus Stuttgart, sponsored by the Baden-Württemberg Foundation
